Map Skills
1.7.1 Construct and use simple maps to represent physical and human characteristics of a community
We have been learning how to construct a map. The children know that all maps need: a title, a compass rose, and a map key. They have also learned that a map shows physical characteristics (i.e. mountains, lakes, rivers, etc.) and human characteristics (streets, houses, stores, schools, etc.).
Things to Remember When Making a Map:
Include a title
Include an accurate compass rose
Include an accurate map key
Have a least two physical characteristics (nature made)
Have things on a map that a community needs (Remember a community is a place where people live, work, learn, and play)
