Module 2 Concepts-Things to Know:
Counting On Strategy
It is important for the students to know that they can count on the number from one collection to figure out a total rather than count every item in both collections. The counting on strategy helps children add when one of the addends is 0, 1, 2, or 3.
Memorize the Doubles Facts
We learned the Counting On Strategy (+0, +1, or +2).
Adding doubles, such as 7+7 or 10+10, is another important strategy for learning addition facts. There are just 10 of them to learn! The firsties are expected to automatically know the double facts without counting. Knowing the doubles will also help kids learn the "doubles neighbor" facts, such as 5+6 and 8+9. Check your firstie's Homework Book for our Double Facts visual cues. Your firstie should be able to solve problems like this:
"What's double 8?"
"16"

Telling Time By the Hour
The last few lessons are working with analog and digital clocks. Firsties need to know that the long hand is called the minute hand and the short hand is called the hour hand. They will be reviewing reading analog and digital o'clock times.
